Governance and Management of the Municipal Council of Mbabane |
Governance:
The Municipal Council of Mbabane is governed by the Urban Government Act of 1969. It is a progeny of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development which is responsible for general governance of the urban areas in Swaziland. The Minister of Housing and Urban Development delegates most of his powers to the public to run the affairs of their own urban community. The public then elects a body of Councillors to form the Municipal Council which will in turn exercise the delegated authority to run the municipality. The Council enjoys a certain degree of autonomy. The responsibility of the Council is to make policies and draw different pieces of legislation necessary for the implementation of these policies. The minister, however, has to assent first to most of these operations. |

Meet your Councillors 2008 |
By the end of last year, the Municipal Council of Mbabane successfully elected into office eleven of the twelve Councillors. All but one ward were able to have a representative in the Council Chambers by the end of the year. The remaining Ward to be without a Councillor is Ward 8. Ironically, Ward 8 has been having the same problem of having a vacancy in every electoral year. If all goes according to plan, this Ward will have a Councillor before the end of this year.
The following are the new Councillors of the Municipal Council of Mbabane. The Ward 6 and 2 Councillors were early this year or so elected into the position of Mayor and Deputy Mayor respectively. They are Mayor Clr. Sikhatsi Dlamini and Deputy Mayor Clr. Zephaniah Nkambule. They still remain Ward Councillors though.
